About: Kite surfing has become one of the fastest growing water sports in Ireland, recently spotlighted by its entry into (and subsequent retraction from) the 2016 Olympic games. The kite surfing “season” usually begins in March and ends in November. However, you will see many kiters braving the Irish waters “off season” when the wind is blowing the right way! It is an amazing sport with a growing community of young and old riders alike, making it a sport for everyone.

About: Loftus Hall is a large mansion house situated on the Hook peninsula. It is Located on the right hand side as you drive towards Hook Lighthouse on the tip of the Hook Peninsula.The first castle was built on the site in 1170 by the Norman Knight Raymond Les Gros. He changed his surname to Redmond to adapt an Irish identity.The Redmond family built the Hall in 1350 during the time of the Black Death to replace the castle. It then became known as Redmond Hall.Redmond Hall became the property of the Loftus family in the 1650s as a result of the Cromwellian confiscations and this was confirmed after the Restoration of King Charles II of England by the Act of Settlement 1662. Redmond Hall then became Loftus Hall.

We cater for everyone from the experienced angler to the family just wanting to enjoy the thrill of a short boat trip. We are also available to charter for surveys, dives and research. The Hook Peninsula offers some of the most spectacular scenery in Ireland as well as some of the finest sea angling to be had along the Irish coast. Our boat trips are a truly unique experience for all the family. Cruises include the opportunity to see natural caves, secluded beaches and bird watching. The historic sites of the area all take a different perspective when viewed from the sea. You could also be lucky to spot some seals and dolphins or catch some fish. Our sea angling charters are second to none; you can hope to catch up to 20 species in a day including cod, pollock, ling, conger eel, wrasse and gurnard. Shark fishing will provide good sport with catches of up to 100lbs during the summer months.

About: Sheilbaggan Outdoor Education Centre is located at the top of the hook peninsula in the South West Wexford village of Ramsgrange. The centre is located 15km SW of New Ross and 30km West of Wexford town. It is approximately 5km from the sea and 16km from the Hook Head Lighthouse.In 1979 the VEC converted an empty national school into the SE’s first outdoor education centre. Located adjacent to the beaches and outdoor resources of the hook peninsula, he centre was ideally located to offer courses in the outdoor education and environmental studies to schools students through the county and further a field.The centre started offering these courses in 1979. The centre was moved to a larger building in Ramsgrange in 1998 where it still remains. Sheilbaggan continues to provide activities and outdoor education for the people of Wexford and further afield and continues to develop new activities.
South Coast Charter Angling

About: South Coast Charter Angling arranges whale watching trips off the South Coast of Ireland and was delighted to be involved in the humpback whale sightings off Hook Head, Co. Wexford in January 2013. Whale watching season is from mid November to the end of March each year.  Our boat, the Rebecca C, is wheelchair friendly, with easy access to and from the boat. There is also a wheelchair accessible toilet on board.

We can arrange to pick up passengers at Duncannon, Co. Wexford or Dunmore East, Co. Waterford during the winter and Youghal, Co. Cork throughout the rest of the year. Over the last 7 years regular land based watches from Ardmore, County Waterford and Hook Head, County Wexford have indicated an abundance of cetaceans (the collective name for whales and dolphins) along the south east coastline. There have been seven different species encountered in these waters ranging in size from the harbour porpoise at just over 1m to the second largest mammal on the planet, the fin whale at over 20m. As well as whales and dolphins, there may be sightings of other marine wildlife, including grey and common seals, basking sharks and even the occasional sunfish or leatherback turtle, together with the many different species of seabird. As you will appreciate, on any outing it is not possible to guarantee that you will encounter dolphins or whales but you will always be certain of an enjoyable day at sea.

On a flying visit?  Then why not take the The Hook Highlights Bus Tour.  During the summer season this day tour visits some of the flagship attractions in Wexford and is the only bus tour of County Wexford bookable on a seat by seat basis.  Taking in The Dunbrody Famine Ship in New Ross, as well as the iconic Hook Lighthouse. Also included is Tintern Abbey or Loftus Hall. It is ideal for independent travelers or those who just want to leave the car behind for the day.
